A big thank you to all that took part in the Stop Acid Reflux Now Survey 2007.
The survey closed last Thursday and I’ve started reviewing the results - there’s some great information that I know you are going to find really useful.
While I’m going through and compiling all the results I thought you may like a ’sneaky peak’ at some of the solutions to acid reflux that were suggested by fellow acid reflux sufferers to ease the pain and frequency of symptoms.
Rather than writing out the information I thought I would do a video - quite exciting as it’s my first one for this blog.
I hope you like the format and if you have any comments you’re more than welcome to post your thoughts. Please just leave a reply in the comments field below.

HI, I have enjoyed this audio clip, and learned a few things as well. I am new to reflux. I am now on my second round of PPI’s which are not working for me. The next step is the GI doctor. I am dreading having to undergo a scope, and am wondering if this is the only method for diagnosing GERD.
Thanks so much.
I have a question about Acid Reflux. All the stuff I have read describe people having alot of pain due to Acid Reflux. I was diagnosed with Acid Reflux but never experienced any pain. It tore up my vocal cords where I developed a polup on them and had to have it removed when I almost lost my voice. I never really had any symptoms of acid relux that I knew of. Since then I have had a Barium swollow, which showed I have acid reflux. So what does it mean if I do not have any symptoms? Which makes it hard to control b/c I don’t even know when it is coming. I am now on Protonix. Thanks for any help you can offer.

As you’ve not responded to the PPI’s, which is often the first step in the diagnosis process, your doctor will want to confirm a diagnosis one way or the other.
I can understand the concern about having an endoscopy as they aren’t the most pleasant of procedures, however its important to find out what’s causing your symptoms.
There are a number of diagnostic procedures that are used other than the traditional ‘camera down the throat’ endoscopy - they are as follows:
A barium swallow in conjunction with x-rays
pH monitoring examination to determine the amount of acid
Capsule Endoscopy - small capsule that contains cameras that gets passed through your system
Bravo pH test - a small capsule attached to the esophagus during an endoscopy - which stays in place for 1 - 2 days before naturally detaching itself and being passed through the system.
Manometry - measures the muscular pressure in your esophagus
Have a chat with your doctor about your concerns and see what they suggest. The important thing is to determine the cause of your symptoms so you can take action to improve your health.

The good news is you are now aware this is a problem… You can get tested again and checked for damage on a regular basis - which you should speak to your doctor about.
Also, I would look over the foods and lifestyle choices that generally trigger acid reflux and work to remove as many as possible. Have a look through the blog posts as there are many that offer lifestyle and dietary suggestions.
I have had a mamonetry test it was the worst thing in the world the top of my eosophagus was tight but was told this could be caused by stress. I refused to go home with the ph test as i felt so traumatised.
